our two main objectives for our trip to little tokyo were to a) find a hachimaki for sun and b) to go to the tofu festival.
we accomplished one of our main objectives and more.
the day started off well when tae fell asleep on the drive out to la. we headed out early, so finding parking was no problem. on our way to the little village section of little tokyo we passed by the american apparel store. both sun and i have been a little curious about this store for a while and it was fun to actually go inside and see everything live and in person. all three of us came out of the store with something - as sun said, it's guilt-free shopping.
once we hit the little village, there were vendors and booths crowding nearly all of the sidewalks. we walked around, ate ramen and sushi rolls, and the strolled by the japanese american national museum. today happened to also be their annual children's festival, so the museum was free and there were all kinds of kid frienldy activities. tae was so enthralled to see taiko drums in person - where she could bang on them to her heart's content. she impressed all the museum docents with her alertness, her walking, her appreciation for music, and her clapping. each time she heard someone playing on the drums, she turned and started clapping and cheering. what a team player.
we walked around some more, found hachimakis for sun, got some groceries and drinks, and then hit the road for home. though we didn't make it to the tofu fest, we had a great day in little tokyo and great eats, which were all we were really after anyway.
